There is often confusion over the use of the term, Celebrant.
There are three typres of Celebrant, Family, Funeral and Civil.
A Family Celebrant can write and deliver Wedding Ceremonies, Civil Partnership Ceremonies, Renewal of Vows and Naming Ceremonies, together with other joyus occasions in life.
A Funeral Celebrant can write and officate over Funeral Ceremonies, Memorials and Commemorations - life events that are generally dealing with death or loss.
A Civil Celebrant tends to practice both as A Family Celebrant and Funeral Celebrant.
It is often very difficult for someone to stand in front of family and friends at a Funeral, to talk about their loved ones lives as they are about to say goodbye for the last time.
My job is to do just that, be a family member for the few days leading up to and through the day of the funeral. Reassuring, understanding and compassionate, delivering the message and biography that the family wish to pass on to the congregation present.
I meet with the family before the funeral, to get to know the deceased, their lives, the family life and connections and then put that to paper, the reading that goes before those gathered. I pass on the family's message to the audience, with the passion, humour (if required), consideration and direction of the family's wishes.
